About the property

Detailed property description

Lengishu House Laikipia: A Private, Solar-Powered Luxury Safari Home in Borana Conservancy

Lengishu House is an exclusive-use luxury safari home in the 32,000-acre Borana Conservancy in Laikipia, Kenya. It sleeps up to 12 guests in six bedrooms across four cottages, and every room faces east over the valley. The house runs entirely on solar power, and guests choose their own itinerary.

What Is Lengishu House?

Lengishu is a private family home on safari, set into a ridge with views across the Laikipia plains and towards Kenya’s Northern Frontier. It is booked exclusively, so your family or group has the house, the staff and the guides to yourselves.

It is built from local materials. Kenyan timber beams, hand-crafted by local artisans, run through the house, and the stone for the floors and design features was excavated from the site itself. The result blends into the landscape rather than standing out from it.

Where Is Lengishu House?

Lengishu is in the heart of the Borana Conservancy, a private wildlife reserve in Laikipia, northern Kenya. Borana is known as one of the country’s most successful rhino sanctuaries and is home to the Big Five and many other species. The conservancy also supports healthy populations of elephants, lions, cheetahs and leopards.

Rooms and Accommodation

Lengishu has six bedrooms in four cottages set apart from the main house. All rooms face east over the valley, with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in the sunrise.

Every bedroom is spacious, with a fireplace or wood-burning stove for cool evenings and an en-suite bathroom with a rain shower and a freestanding copper bathtub. The big windows let you watch wildlife from the bath.

The Main House

The main house has floor-to-ceiling windows, a vaulted lounge and dining area, and plenty of outdoor space to socialise. Lengishu is part-managed by the team from neighbouring Borana Lodge, and all food, including dairy, fruit, vegetables and meat, is sourced from a local farm.
