About the property

Detailed property description

Sirai House Laikipia: A Private Luxury Safari House at the Foot of Mount Kenya

Sirai House is an exclusive-use luxury safari house in the Borana Conservancy in Laikipia, Kenya. It has six private suites and sits on a 250-acre estate with views of Mount Kenya. Because only one group stays at a time, it suits families, friends and celebrations. Guests reach it by a private flight of about 50 minutes from Nairobi.

What Is Sirai House?

Sirai House is a private safari house on a quiet ridge in Laikipia, northern Kenya. It opened in late 2012 and sits on the north-facing lower slopes of Mount Kenya. Guests see snow-capped peaks in one direction and open grassland in the other.

Unlike a conventional safari lodge, Sirai House is booked as a whole. You have the house, the staff, the grounds and the wildlife experiences to yourselves, with no other guests sharing the space.

Where Is Sirai House?

Sirai House is in the Borana Conservancy, a large private wildlife reserve in the Laikipia region of Kenya, near the town of Nanyuki. The conservancy is a key wildlife corridor between Mount Kenya and the drier plains to the north. It is also one of the last strongholds of black rhino in Africa.

The house stands on its own 250-acre estate among indigenous cedar, wild olive and euphorbia trees. This gives each suite space and privacy, and the open views run across the reserve in every direction.

How to Get to Sirai House

The easiest route is a private charter flight from Nairobi, which takes about 50 minutes. This avoids a long road journey and lets you move from the capital to the bush in a single morning.

Suites and Accommodation

Sirai House has six suites, set in private cottages across terraced gardens. Each is styled differently and has wide views. Large soaking baths are a feature, and many guests spend time in them looking out over the landscape.

  • Master Suite: the most spacious, with a private terrace and infinity pool.
  • Suite 2: closest to the main house, known for warm, textured fabrics and long views over the reserve.
  • Suites 3 and 4: self-contained, for guests who want a more private retreat.
  • Suites 5 and 6: the furthest from the main house, set among the treetops with a private viewing platform.

The house also has a treehouse-style room, panelled in reclaimed Mount Kenya cedar.

The Main House and Design

The main house mixes traditional and contemporary design. Exposed brickwork, a calm palette of white, grey and beige, and plenty of natural light give it a relaxed, elegant feel. The drawing room is the centrepiece, with a high thatched ceiling, leather and suede furnishings, Persian rugs and a large carved sandstone fireplace.

Food and Service

Dining is a highlight of a stay at Sirai House. The kitchen caters to all dietary needs, and guests can bring in a personal chef or a Michelin-starred chef. Staff look after the details so you can relax.
