What Is Loisaba Tented Camp?

Loisaba Tented Camp is a luxury camp with a safari lodge feel. It combines the comfort of a boutique hotel with the setting of a tented camp. The tents are large, airy and built for views.

The camp sits on the Loisaba Conservancy. This is a private wildlife area of roughly 56,000 acres, though sources quote different sizes. It is also a working ranch. Conservation, community and tourism all share the land.

Where Is Loisaba Tented Camp?

The camp is in northern Laikipia, on the Laikipia Plateau. It is about 260 km from Nairobi. The Ewaso Nyiro River lies to the south of the conservancy. Escarpments and open plains stretch to the north.

You can read more about the area on our Loisaba Conservancy page. For other options nearby, see our guide to the Kenya conservancies.

The Tents

Loisaba has 12 generously sized tents. Most are doubles or twins. The tents have high ceilings, polished wooden floors and floor-to-ceiling doors and windows. Each opens onto a private veranda with a long view.

Every tent has an en-suite bathroom. You get a flush toilet, twin basins and a large solar-heated rainfall shower. Inside, you also find plush rugs, a lounge area and bedside lamps.

The camp offers these room types:

Room TypeBest For
Double (per person sharing)Couples and friends
Single roomSolo travellers
Triple room (up to 3 guests)Small families and groups
Safari suite (up to 3 guests)Families wanting extra space

The tents are spaced far apart. As a result, you see and hear very little of your neighbours.

Facilities at the Camp

  • Infinity pool: A rim-flow pool with views across Laikipia
  • Lounge and bar: A large open lounge with comfortable seating
  • Dining area: An open dining area and a wooden deck for meals with a view
  • Waterhole views: The camp looks out over a waterhole
  • Laundry: Included in the full board rate
  • Bush dining: Meals can also be served in the bush

Food and Drink

Meals are served in the open dining area. You can also ask for a bush breakfast or dinner. Local Laikipia honey is a popular treat at breakfast.

Full board includes all meals, teas, coffees, soft drinks, beer, house wines and selected spirits on the property. Premium drinks cost extra.

Wildlife at Loisaba

Loisaba is known for its wildlife. The conservancy also forms part of an important elephant corridor. Here is what you may see:

Sightings vary with the season and the day. No sighting is guaranteed.

Conservation and Community

Revenue from bed nights and conservancy fees supports conservation. It also funds health, education and enterprise projects for neighbouring Samburu and Laikipiak Maasai communities. Staff come from the local communities too.

Loisaba has its own anti-poaching team. It includes sniffer dogs and their handlers. The conservancy works with The Nature Conservancy and other partners. If this matters to you, explore our conservation-based safaris.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Loisaba?

Laikipia is a year-round destination. The dry months are usually best. These are June to October and December to March. Wildlife gathers near water, and tracks are drier.

The short rains from October to December can bring greener landscapes and fewer visitors. However, they can also bring mud. For late 2026, a strengthening El Niño is expected to bring heavier rain. Read our guide on El Niño and Kenya safaris before you book. For month-by-month advice, see the best time to visit Kenya for a luxury safari.

Who Is Loisaba Tented Camp Best For?

  • Couples who want views, space and privacy

  • Wildlife lovers who want to see wild dogs
  • Small families, using the triple rooms and Safari suites
